About Us

our history

The Bhavani Shankara Mandir was founded in 1990 by a pioneering team of community leaders led by Pandit Chandradeo Mohan who recognized the importance of continuing our long tradition of satsangh worship in a western society. From its humble beginning as a small informal gathering in a lease space at 1064 Suffolk Ave., Brentwood NY, the Mandir has grown into a strong, vibrant organization with solid membership and effective, forward-thinking leadership.

In 2009, under the spiritual guidance and leadership of Pandit Chandradeo Mohan (Son of the Late Pandit Madan and Kunti Mohan) the mandir acquired a plot of Land at 150 E Suffolk Ave., Central Islip, NY as site for the new mandir.

In 2013, The Mandir performed Yagna and commenced Excavation of Site.

In 2016, Pandit Chandradeo Mohan, the head priest and one of the founders of the Bhavani Shankara Mandir, spearheaded the construction of the Mandir which was completed in 2019. He was assisted by his wife, his family and many loyal members.

Today the mandir continues to provide a wide range of religious, cultural and social activities dedicated toward the spiritual, social and educational upliftment of our community. These include regular Sunday satsangh services, yagnas, religious festivals and holidays, and community and social events. We encourage participation in our activities and events by all of our members, particularly the youths of our society to whom the future belongs.

As our new Mandir is open, we trust that you will continue to support our program and our efforts to preserve, protect and propagate the teachings and practice of Sanatan Dharma for the betterment of our entire community.
